mage is a modern convenience store –thoughtfully curated and easy to rely on. From everyday pantry & stationary essentials and last-minute treats to gifting card, balloons and homeware pieces. We bring together the things you need (and love) in one beautifully convenient space. It’s convenience, but nicer, designed to make life that little bit easier and nicer.
The store opened in Southgate in late 2025, partnered with the Cannon Hill Post Office, a place that has served the local community for over six decades. For many in Southgate, this has long been a familiar stop, where neighbours crossed paths and everyday errands were part of daily life.
Those local will be familiar with my dad, Harry, who has ran the post office and accompanying convenience store for more than 12 years– delivering newspapers, selling lottery tickets, sending parcels and keeping the shelves stocked with daily essentials, from random flavoured drinks and unique stationery to scratch cards and lottery. All those things will remain.
When the time came for the space to evolve, Harry’s son had a vision: to build on this strong community foundation, creating something new and modern, while keeping the post office firmly at its core. From that idea, magē was born.
Rooted in the Sri Lankan heritage behind the Cannon Hill Post Office, the name magē comes from the Sinhalese word meaning “mine.” It reflects a sense of belonging, familiarity and pride, but a place where you can get yourself something and even pieces to gift.
Our food items have evolved to include high quality produce made items, ranging from Thai sauces and pastas to chocolate and award winning marmalades! If you want something quick, yet healthy and tasty, come to us!
